Early diabetic kidney disease usually causes no symptoms at all. Your kidneys can lose a significant amount of function before you feel anything wrong, which is why it is often called a “silent” complication.

As the disease progresses, you may notice:

* Swelling in the feet, ankles, or around the eyes
* Foamy or frothy urine
* Unusual fatigue
* Poor appetite
* Blood pressure that becomes harder to control

By the time these symptoms appear, kidney damage may have already progressed.

That’s why we don’t wait for symptoms—we test for them. If you have diabetes, an annual kidney check-up is one of the simplest things you can do to protect your future health.
